Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Municipal Airport near Wisconsin Dells, WI
The Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Municipal Airport is a small local airport, intended for the public's use. It is situated 4 miles to the south of the beloved tourist destination of Wisconsin Dells, and approximately 3.5 miles northwest of nearby Baraboo. The Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Airport lies just off US 12, from which it's possible to reach either of the aforementioned towns by car in a matter of minutes. The Native American-run Ho-Chunk Casino is situated adjacent to the airport, welcoming flyers to Wisconsin's Sauk County.
The airport has only two runways, one of which is paved with asphalt and one of which is unpaved (it is covered with packed dirt). The asphalt runway is 4,800 feet in length and 75 feet wide. The unpaved runway is only 2,708 feet in length and 100 feet wide, and cannot be used in the winter because of weather conditions. The entire airport complex takes up 312 acres of land. The airport's elevation is 979 feet above sea level.
The airport serves mostly private individuals, hobbyists and amateur pilots who own small planes for personal use. A few chartered flights take off from this airport from time to time. Approximately 93 planes take off and land at the Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells airport every day. Most of these are single-engine planes used for general aviation.
The airport offers a number of recreational aviation activities. There is a flight school, and experienced pilots can even rent a singe-engine Cessna or a Piper Cherokee. For those who have no interest in learning to pilot a plane for themselves, the airport offers helicopter tours of the surrounding region.
