One of the newest attractions in "The Waterpark Capital of the World" is the Moosejaw Pizza & Brewing Co., the only micro-brewery located in Wisconsin Dells. Founded in 2002, this amazing Canadian-themed restaurant features one of the largest brewpubs in the Midwestern United States. This micro-brewery is named after the western Canadian town of Moose Jaw, which has a dubious past. Moose Jaw dates back to July 1881, when Hector Sutherland and James Ross selected the juncture of Thunder Creek and Moose Jaw to be the place where the Canadian Pacific Railway would cross the river valley. Two years later, the first passenger train arrived, where visitors would find 40 houses, three hotels, six stores, five saloons, two blacksmiths, and one drugstore. In the early 1900s, a series of tunnels under the city were constructed to help maintain heating systems for the downtown buildings. This is important, along with the operation of the Moose Jaw Brewing & Malting Co., because Moose Jaw became Al Capone's source of liquor during the United States' Prohibition Era. These tunnels had been long forgotten until a truck fell through a street downtown, revealing this incredible network that was abuzz with illicit (in America's eyes) activity. (This network in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, is now a living museum and entertainment center.) The founders of Moosejaw Pizza & Brewing Co. thought the history of this town was so intriguing and interesting; they couldn't help turning the town's history into a restaurant concept. Other tributes in the restaurant include menu items like Saskatchewan Sodas (Gonzo Grape & Orange and Moosejaw Rootbeer), The Shaved Capone (an Italian-style chipped beef sandwich with pepperoncinis, red and green peppers, provolone cheese, mushrooms, and a mustard sauce), and The Canadian Club (Canadian bacon, sliced ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese and dill pickles). Many of the trusses in the building were flown in form Canada, and the Canadian flag is displayed in the restaurant's foyer.
